10 Basic AutoCAD Commands & How to Use It

1. LINE– (L) enter(space button/Enter button)

Line is the very important and useful command in AutoCAD To draw a line press L and press Enter, Then specify first point from where you want to start the LINE and then specify the Next point where you want to end the line/specify the exact length that you wanted to make a line of and again press Enter For example go through the photos below. Note: Press F8(ortho ON/OFF) If the line is Not appearing straight or Rotating in complete 360 degrees.

2. OFFSET– (O) Enter

Offset command is similar to copy command, Like if you want to make an offset of a line you have to press O and press enter in the command line, Command line will show you three options 1. Through 2.Erase 3. Layer You have to choose the first one i.e. Through by clicking on it or Press T and press enter. Then it will ask you to specify the offset distance, Specify the offset distance and press enter then you have to select the object you want to make an offset of and click on any side of the existing object where you want make the offset. For Example if you want to make an offset of an existing line with the distance of 20mm, press O enter, press T enter, press 20 enter, press enter, click on the existing line and click on any side of the existing line where you want to make an offset.

3. TRIM- (TR) Enter

The name itself says that trim command is used to trim the extra lines and extra part of an object. To use this object you have to press TR and press enter 2 times. Then to trim objects Select the boundaries, Then press enter and select the objects that you want to trim, To use all objects as boundaries press enter at the first select object prompt.

4. EXTEND- (EX) Enter

The shortcut key for extend command is EX, This command is used to extend object to a certain point, To extend object, First select the boundaries, Then press enter and select the objects that you want to extend. To use all objects as boundaries press enter at the first select object prompt.

5. MIRROR- (MI) Enter

With the help of mirror command you can create objects that represent half of a drawing. select them, and mirror them across a specified line to create the other half.

 6. COPY- (CO) Enter

The Shortcut key for copy command is CO By using this command you can copy objects at a specified distance in a specified direction, With the COPYMODE system variable, you can control whether multiple copies are created automatically.

7. MOVE- (M) Enter

The Shortcut key for move command is M By using this command you can move objects at a specified distance in a specified direction, Use coordinates, Grid Snaps, Object snaps, and other tools to move objects with precision.

8. TEXT- (T) Enter

To use text command you need to press T and the  press enter, then drag your cursor where want to write the text, Write whatever you want and press escape if the size of the text appearing is too small or not according to your requirement then just double click on the text you have written and select the whole text by pressing ctrl+A and then change the size in upper left corner then simply press escape.

9. ALIGN (AL) Enter

The shortcut key for this command is AL By using this command you can align object with other objects in 2D or 3D

To use this command you have to press AL and press enter then select the object you want to align then press enter then point the corners of the object you want to align with corners of the other object then press enter and select YES

10. ERASE- (E) Enter

To erase an object press E and press enter then select the object you want to delete/erase and press enter, Instead of this you can simply select the object you want to delete and press DELETE button in your keyboard.
